A Gradual Return The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers". Performance and Potential Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition. Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service. "Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents. A Family Affair Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said. Within the audience will be representatives of different generations. That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks. Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation. Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
