Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
